So we got up today and repacked our bags so we only had what needs to go to the ice hotel in our small bags. We can't check in until 4PM so we did some site seeing. But Ann would like everyone to know she totally coordinated her outfit today right down to her sneakers.
First stop: fill the back tire with air as Hertz has not responded to me (someone will be getting a post trip angry letter).
Next stop: Aquarium (which was about a 30 second drive from the Best Western).
Let me start by telling you we found Nemo
Next let me tell you about the layout. Half the aquarium is outside and there are separate buildings for Jelly Fish, main building with most of the fish you'll see, and so on. Here's a map of the joint.
Now you're about to see about 100 photos of fish and stuff.
Then it was feeding time for the walruses (or walri as we call them)
The polar bears were napping
As was the arctic fox
Ann was in awe of the fox scat
Then we found the ice sculptures
I was a child
Then we went in the building that we think is a bar at night. They were making caramel ice (basically the guy pours hot caramel into the ice and it freezes and the kids twirl it into a pop cycle stuck and eat it.
Then we went in the main building with the tunnel you walk under a tank
And we saw LOTS of cool fish
I thought these guys were dead
Ann called this the deflated star fish
One fish
Two fish
Sexy fish
Blue fish
Now more fish:
And we took time to take these photos
Ok so you're probably sick of the fish so we'll move on
We left the aquarium and decided to do a drive by of the ice hotel. We got there only to find its set WAY back behind the welcome center so you can't see it. Oh well, we will defo see it later.
We left the hotel and drove to Old Quebec. I didn't listen to Lola and took a wrong turn but we got there. And walked around a bit.
They seem to love their ice sculptures here and seem to use it to chill their drinks (finally a country I can get in board with!)
We went to Cafe De La Paix for lunch (Grover came too)
We both got French onion soup to start
I had Seafood Cassoulette
Ann had fish and chips
Grover had bread
Then we walked around a bit. Ann made friends with a horse
And so you know, this is how I've been carrying Grover around today (people probably thought we were shop lifting!)
Now we are off to the ice hotel! Wish us luck....I'm sure there will be some interesting stories to tell!
